TARN HOWS BY HAWKSHEAD’S BETTYFOLD AND ROSE CASTLE

This route starting from Hawkshead Hill is one of the quietest and pleasantest ways to visit Tarn Hows. Making a clockwise circuit it starts from the road by Bettyfold to walk a narrow lane and footpath to pass the remarkable stone cottage of Rose Castle before rounding Tarn Hows. Return is made over the track by Iron Keld back to the road at Knipe Scar.

This route starting from Hawkshead Hill is one of the quietest and pleasantest ways to visit Tarn Hows. Making a clockwise circuit it starts from the road by Bettyfold to walk a narrow lane and footpath to pass the remarkable stone cottage of Rose Castle before rounding Tarn Hows. LENGTH: 6km.
TIME: 3 hours.
DIFFICULTY: Easy, on paths and stony lanes although it is rough, stony and a little boggy in places. Overall there is 250m of ascent.  
START & FINISH: Bettyfold beside road at junction by driveway leading to Rose How (338 991) or by the Knipe Fold junction.
