TROUTBECK’S EAST RIDGE – YOKE, ILL BELL, FROSWICK & THORNTHWAITE BEACON

A long, high mountain route offering tremendous position without undue  technical difficuly. An anticlockwise route gaining the crest of the ridge by first ascending Garburn Pass and thereafter following the distinct mountain path northwards along the grassy shoulder and tops to Thornthwaite Beacon. Return is made by steep descent of the Troutbeck end of the High Street Roman Road and then along a good track to Limefitt Park.

TIME: 7 hours.
DIFFICULTY: Very Difficult, a mountain route of some length though on good tracks  and paths throughout.
START & FINISH: Troutbeck Valley, parking by the river just below Church Bridge (412 027).
MAPS: OS L90 or OL7
HOSTELRIES: The Mortal Man and Queens Head Inns and Troutbeck Post Office Tearoom all lay within Troutbeck.
