CHAPEL STILE TO SILVER HOW BY MEGS GILL

Description

A very fine route offering superlative views over both Great Langdale and the Vale of Grasmere. A path rises through the meadows of Chapel Stile to Walthwaite. Steeper ascent leads to an exposed traverse around the depths of Megs Gill and out onto the watershed between Langdale and Grasmere. Beyond lie Silver How and Youdell Tarn before zigzag descent beside Robin Gill gains a traverse to the rocky spire of Copt How. Finish via Thrang Quarry and under the church back into Chapel Stile. DIFFICULTY: Mildly difficult with
strenuous ascent (some 400m) and
descent. The path around Megs Gill is
narrow and exposed in places.
