Rising from Brockhole Lake District Visitor Centre to the lower flanks of Wansfell’s The Hundreds this is a delightful circuit following four forgotten lanes through a rich and varied landscape.  Fine mixed woods, Middlerigg Tarn, stone barns, and open spacious views out across Windermere to the Langdale Pikes are included in the exploration of the Lanes: Wain, Robin, Skelghyll and Mirk.

Rising from Brockhole Lake District Visitor Centre to the lower flanks of Wansfell’s The Hundreds this is a delightful circuit following four forgotten lanes through a rich and varied landscape.  Fine mixed woods, Middlerigg Tarn, stone barns, and open spacious views out across Windermere to the Langdale Pikes are included in the exploration of the Lanes: Wain, Robin, Skelghyll and Mirk.

 

LENGTH: 7 km.
TIME: 2.5 hours.
DIFFICULTY: Mildly difficult, mainly on stony, occasionally surfaced, lanes with 270m of ascent.
START & FINISH: Brockhole car park (390008) or Steamer/Boat  Pier.
ALTERNATIVE START: Lay-by beside Town End Road near Wain Lane (405019).

HOSTELRIES: Café and terrace teas at Brockhole. Teas at Troutbeck Post Office nearby.
