TO ALCOCK TARN ABOVE GRASMERE

Butter Crags within a fold of Heron Pike. Offering unrivalled views over the Vale of Grasmere this route passes by Dove Cottage and Town End duck pond to ascend through the trees of Wood Close and then the open fell, rounding Butter Crags to overlook little Alcock Tarn. A descent of the zigzags leads to Greenhead Gill before a footpath across the fields leads directly back to the car park.
