Description
If you want a walk for all seasons, a world class landscape, breathtaking beauty, variety and interest, then take this walk which traverses above, and below, the wooded heights of Lodore. Starting from Surprise View it makes an anticlockwise round first following the Watendlath Road to Ashness Bridge before dropping to Barrow Bay. A walk along Derwentwater’s shoreline then leads to Kettlewell Car Park and Lodore Woods before ascent, beside Lodore Falls on neglected and tree bestrewn pathways, climbs back to the heights.
CLASS: Low Fell Walk (alt 250m).
LENGTH: 5.5 km.
TIME: 3.5 hours.
DIFFICULTY: Mildly difficult, short road sections and a short strenuous ascent by Lodore Falls (160m).
START & FINISH: Surprise View Car Park in Ashness Wood (268 190).
MAPS: OS L89 or OL4.
HOSTELRIES: Mary Mount Hotel enroute. High Lodore Farm (Shepherd’s Café) and Caffle House Tearoom in Watendlath are nearby.
